Do Not Be Afraid

Luke 8:49 While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue ruler. "Your daughter is dead," he said. "Don't bother the teacher any more." 50 Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, "Don't be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed." 51 When he arrived at the house of Jairus, he did not let anyone go in with him except Peter, John and James, and the child's father and mother. 52 Meanwhile, all the people were wailing and mourning for her. "Stop wailing," Jesus said. "She is not dead but asleep." 53 They laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. 54 But he took her by the hand and said, "My child, get up!" 55 Her spirit returned, and at once she stood up. Then Jesus told them to give her something to eat. 56 Her parents were astonished, but he ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened.

'Fear not' in other scripture versions. What is all happening here? First there is someone pleading with the Lord, knowing her daughter is already dead, in this case physically. Did that stop her? What faith!! Would you cry out to the Lord to raise someone that has died? It's in us -this faith.

The significance today for me is death and dying in the things of the past. This refers to healing in the same way. When we have died inside because of dreadful situations that have occurred over our lives and have not totally given them up to the Lord for many reasons. There is a need to be complete by this process of laying all things at His feet, at the foot of the cross where He bore it all for us to be healed.

He says to us here, 'don't be afraid, only believe and you will be healed'. Peter, John and James being the only ones to go with Him into the child's room with the father and mother may be significant in that we must choose carefully our prayer warriors or the ones standing with us, not everyone has the same vision for what you seek. Seek those who will stand with you when you are 'dead' and can't speak for yourself. Think about that a bit longer. And along the way some may laugh and cry, and even say it isn't necessary. But the Lord is always near and in you saying 'Talitha cumi or my child, get up!' Isn't that enough to hear His voice, His protection, His desire for you to live and be made whole. It is His voice, listen.
